Katie Burk and Julia Conway first joined musical forces in 2008 to develop their own take on acoustic roots music. While Katie plays fiddle and Julia plays double bass, they highlight close vocal harmonies in a variety of styles. D. Mark Conway is the guitarist and co-writer for the band's originals. Dan Thompson completes their current sound on drums. In 2012, The Half Step Sisters were chosen to perform on NPR's A Prairie Home Companion Duet Competition. Out of 1,000 applicants nationwide, Katie and Julia placed third.
